Meet Juan from California. Juan is 5 years old and has Down syndrome.
Juan has lots of love to give, and his smiles give you a glimpse into his dynamic world. He is sweet and engaging; loves to interact with other children and adults. Juan loves music and dancing to the latest tunes. Enjoying the scenery and smell of outdoors, playing in the swings and running around are all the “little things” that can make Juan the happiest boy in the world. His favorite toys are balls and Legos. Juan is a great eater and can feed himself. He enjoys a variety of foods, even oatmeal and soups. Overall, Juan is a very healthy child.
Juan attends school on a daily basis and for the most part does well, however, it is difficult for him to focus on any singular task. He needs assistance with some of his daily needs such as changing diaper or clothes. Juan has limited speech and will get frustrated and tantrum if he doesn’t get his way. He usually can get his point across by pointing.
Juan is diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome and is developmentally delayed. He is receiving specialized services at school and has a current IEP on file. He is also benefitting from Regional Center Services. Juan has a great deal of potential; he needs a family with the strength and patience to support and guide him.
Juan was born in September of 2011 and is of Latino descent.
There are NO fees for Juan’s adoption, and the adoptive family will receive a monthly subsidy for him until the age of 18 or 21 (depending on CA statutes).
