Meet Jenny!

Jenny is 13 years old and has Down syndrome. She is currently residing in Delaware and Delaware families are preferred, but families from any state will be considered as an option.

Jenny is a playful teenager with a joyous laugh that lights up any room. She enjoys activities with small groups or one-on-one interaction, which helps to minimize overstimulation. While Jenny doesn't communicate with talking, she communicates with smiling, laughing, raising her head, opening her eyes, clapping her hands, and vocalizing.

Because of Jenny's visual impairment, she is happiest when her other senses are stimulated. She enjoys listening to songs, dancing with her arms, and exploring new toys with her hands. Jenny gets a real laugh out of palm tickles, which she loves to give as much as she receives them!

A dream day for Jenny is lounging outdoors in her wheelchair with familiar voices singing her favorite songs from Disney's "Frozen" while holding her hands as she leads them in dance and pauses for occasional palm tickles.

Jenny is enrolled in an education program for children with special needs. She enjoys tactile exploration and prefers it when her hands are held to guide her through the daily activities. Jenny enjoys small play groups during which she laughs and vocalizes as she explores the weekly themed sensory bins. She also enjoys helping activities, such as filling the coffee water tank.

Jenny has Obstructive Sleep Apnea and a congenital heart defect. She requires assistance for all care and most transitions. She can move independently between sitting upright and laying on her back. She uses a wheelchair with a harness and can stand for a few seconds with assistive tools. Jenny receives Occupational, Physical and Speech therapy.

Jenny needs a loving, patient, and attentive family who can provide her the care she needs. An ideal family is either trained, or is willing to be trained to meet all of Jenny's needs. Jenny will require in-home nursing for vigilant monitoring. She will also thrive best in a home that can accommodate her wheelchair, and can provide her with a safe sleeping space.

Older siblings or siblings close in age would be best for Jenny, since she requires a lot of care.

If you are interested in Jenny and you are on the NDSAN registry, please email Stephanie and she will send your home study and family profile to her worker.

If you have a home study, but you are NOT on the NDSAN registry, please have your worker send your home study and family profile to Jenny's worker, who is listed on Jenny's page here. (Jenny's worker's information is visible to those who have an account with AdoptUSKids.) The NDSAN cannot send your information if you are not on our registry.

If you do not have a home study, please know that Jenny may be placed by the time your home study is completed, and getting a home study will not guarantee Jenny's placement with your family. If you are interested in the adoption process, please start here.
